All computers and other facilities in the lab are open for research assistant use unless otherwise explicitly stated. When using a computer for a purpose other than running an experiment, please observe the following guidelines:
1) If you need to save documents to the computer, create a folder for yourself on the desktop and put the documents in there. Do not save personal documents in the “My Documents” folder.
2) Do not download any software (including games, etc) onto any of the computers unless asked to do so by Jamie, Joe, or Aimee.
3) Feel free to use the printer for academic purposes (i.e. printing class assignments, etc.) when needed.
When you are in the lab you should keep a professional demeanor at all times, especially when you are running participants. This professionalism includes things like courtesy toward the participants, appropriate dress, and a generally good attitude about the work you are doing. We’re not talking about dresses, suits and ties here; just treat your time in the lab as you would any other classroom time.
As a research assistant you’ll be responsible for running participants, entering and cleaning data, and attending lab meetings when they are called. In order to keep up with your current responsibilities you should check the lab website (http://www.bama.ua.edu/~declab/ugra.html ) regularly; this is key to keeping everyone up to date on what is happening in the lab. You’ll be expected to keep up with your hours on your own.
There will be no set
assignments for this class in
this
lab. Instead, your grade will depend on
whether or not you fill your hours and adhere to the general guidelines
stated
here. Make sure to be where you say
you’ll be, and to be there on time. If
you cannot make a meeting or some of your scheduled lab hours, try to
work out
a switch with one of your fellow RAs first.
If that doesn’t work, email or call Aimee, Jamie, or Joe and
alternatives can be worked out. Make
sure to give as much advanced notice as possible of any absences so
that we can
rearrange duties accordingly.
Students with disabilities can contact the Office of Disability Services @ 348-4285. They will set up initial arrangements to accommodate you. After making this call, you should contact Jamie, Aimee or Joe.
