For the past 4 years, undergraduate sculpture majors have consistently been awarded full and partial tuition scholarships by the annual departmental scholarship review.
Graduate students in the sculpture program have been awarded fellowships and stipends from the Graduate Schools's fellowship program.
Students on both the graduate and undergraduate levels participate in local, regional, and national exhibition venues in both group and solo exhibitions.
Graduate and undergraduate students frequently attend and participate in professional conferences (CAA, SECAC, ISC).
In the past 6 years 7 students have graduated with either the MA or MFA in sculpture. 5 out the 7 are teaching at universities or colleges in Missouri, Alabama, Indiana, Mississippi, and Ohio. Another is teaching art at the high school level in Florida. The final of the 7 is a studio artist working in Richmond, Virginia with an ever increasing exhibition record.
Students completing their degrees in the sculpture program have as well gained admittance into some of the top tier art graduate schools in the country including Virginia Commonwealth University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Yale Universtiy, Pratt Institute, Rhode Island School of Design, and the University of California at Berkeley.
Students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels have as well enjoyed recognition for their research and activity in the area of sculpture through articles in local, regional, and nationally syndicated journals and periodicals.
Sculpture majors have as well been highly interactive within the campus community. Recently 4 majors designed, proposed, built, and completed a $30,000 permanent interactive installation at the UA Student Recreation Center Group Cycling Studio.
Sculpture majors will be interacting again with the UA Student Recreation Center for permanent outdoor sculpture.
Sculpture majors are also beginning to work with organizations outside campus in design teams developing permanent sculptural opportunities in local community project planning. Organizations included are The Riverwalk, Black Warrior Riverfront Development, city planners and local architects.
