Jay Barker gave the Alabama FCA chapter a shining leader and example during the years of 1990-95. Jay was a role model who captured the campus and the State of Alabama with his stand against alcohol and drugs and stand for abstinence. As a starting quarterback, he compiled a record of 35-2-1, won All-American honors and the Johnny Unitas Award as the nation’s most outstanding quarterback his senior year. FCA Advisor Wayne Atcheson wrote a book on Jay’s life entitled In Due Time which was published by The Birmingham News with 62,000 copies in print.
Another outstanding role model and FCA leader in the past few years was Shaun Alexander from 1995-2000. Shaun was a charismatic leader in FCA meetings that drew some of our largest crowds. He had a passion for reaching walk-ons and the unknowns and making them feel special. Shaun holds the Alabama record for most rushing yards (291) in one game and he scored 50 touchdowns in his career, more than any other Alabama player. Today, he is the starting running back for the Seattle Seahawks and works to help others through the Shaun Alexander Family Foundation.
