- Chemistry major John Canada has been chosen to attend the United Nations Climate-Change Conference in Durban, South Africa. John is an undergraduate research student with Dr. Robin Rogers. John was one of five US students chosen by the American Chemical Society to attend this conference. You can follow John at the conference on the student perspective blog. UA Press Release
- Congratulations to Dr. Arun Gupta and Dr. Robin Rogers who have been elected to the rank of AAAS Fellows by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Election as an AAAS Fellow isa highly prestigious honor recognizing distinguished efforts in the advancement of science.
- Graduate student Parker McCrary has recieved a Ciba Travel Award in Green Chemistry. Parker was one of four winners nationally. The funds will support his travel to the National ACS Meeting in San Diego. Parker is a member of Dr. Robin Rogers's research groupo.
- A paper entitled, "Effects of transition metal ion coordination on the collision-induced dissociation of polyalanines" by Dr. Carolyn Cassady and Dr. John Vincent was chosen as a special perspective article by the Journal of Mass Spectrometry.
September 2011
- Dr. Thomas Vaid's synthesis of the first all organic porphyrin molecule, which contains an ethylene unit, rather than a metal, was highlighted in Chemical & Engineering News. The novel compound has potential applications in solar energy collection. See the original paper in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.

- Our thoughts go out to everyone in Tuscaloosa who was impacted by the tornado on 4/27. While Shelby Hall and the rest of the UA campus was unharmed, we know that several members of the UA community were affected by this storm.
- Congratulations to all of the Chemistry students who received awards as part of UA's Honors Week.
- Dr. David Dixon will received the Burnum Distinguished Faculty award. The Burnam award is presented annually to a faculty member who has demonstrated superior scholarly or artistic achievements and profound dedication to the art of teaching. Dr. Dixon will receive the award and give an address on Tuesday, April 12th at 4:30 PM at the Child Development Center. The award address is open to the public. UA press release

- Dr. Robin Rogers received the ACS Award in Separations Science and Technology at the recent National ACS meeting in Anaheim.Thisis the premier award in the field of separation. Dr. Rogers is recognized for his significant contributions to the field of separations through the use of alternative solvents, such as ionic liquids and aqueous-biphasic systems, that more environmentally sustainable than traditional organic/aqeuous solvent systems.
