- Chemistry Graduate Student Trent Selby wins University of
Alabama Ph.D. Research Excellence Award for 2000/2001
congratulations Trent!
- Scifinder Scholar now available in Chemistry Department 24 hours
a day. Thanks to Dr. Arduengo for helping to administer this
excellent literature searching resource.
- Cary 14 UV/Vis/NIR spectrophotometer Upgrade: The department
has recently had OLIS (on-line Instrument Company) upgrade its Cary
14. This ~$25,000 upgrade includes removing all of the electronics
(~400 lbs. including the original vacuum tubes) and replacing these
components with digital electronics. The spectrophometer is now interfaced
to a 600 MHz Pentium computer. The instrument is located in LY 253.
Prof. Redding is currently working with OLIS to have the instrument
equipped to run photolysis experiments. Thanks to Profs. Vincent
and Redding for leading this effort.
- NSF Award of a Nanosecond Laser-Flash Photolysis System won
by Department: Thanks to Dr. Bakker for heading this effort.
- NSF Award of a High-Field (W-band) EPR Spectrometer won by
Department: Thanks to Dr. Bakker for heading this effort.
