Chemistry Instructor Position #0806248

The Department of Chemistry at The University of Alabama seeks an outstanding individual to fill a non-tenure track teaching position at the Instructor rank.  This appointment will be a 12 month position with a rolling multi-year term contract.  The successful candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in chemistry. Commitment to excellence in undergraduate education is required with a focus on teaching general chemistry and organic-level instruction.

The University of Alabama and The Department of Chemistry are in an exciting time of growth. The UA student population has grown from 20,000 students in 2003 to > 30,000 currently. This growth has allowed UA to grow its faculty and research enterprise despite the poor economy. The chemistry Department is housed in Shelby Hall, which opened in 2004 and provides state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. General Chemistry labs are taught in the recently completed (2009) Science and Engineering Complex adjacent to Shelby Hall. The Chemistry Department was ranked in thesecond quartile (ca. 60% %tile) in the recent NRC rankings. The department is comprised of 25 faculty, approximately 80 graduate students, and 150 undergraduate majors.
