“Through this endowment the donor wishes to honor the achievements of Professor Arduengo and to promote academic excellence in the Department of Chemistry at The University of Alabama in perpetuity. Professor Arduengo’s scientific contributions are leading to new, environmentally friendly catalysts for important industrial manufacturing processes and materials as well as new pharmaceutical agents for the betterment of humankind. Professor Arduengo’s scientific legacy in unusual valency, physical organic chemistry, and main group element chemistry is internationally recognized. Professor Arduengo has elevated and enhanced the international visibility of The University of Alabama through multinational cooperations in the science of chemistry and personnel exchanges with laboratories around the world. Professor Arduengo also understands and values the importance of quality science education and remains strongly committed to the preparation of future generations of scientists.”
