General
Info |
DATE / TIME:
German Day will take place on March 2nd from 8 am to 2:50 pm.
EVENTS
PER STUDENT:
Students may participate in more than one event. Because most students participate
in more than one event, it is important that participating schools/teachers
submit their registration in a timely fashion so that we can plan accordingly.
NATIVE / NEAR NATIVE SPEAKERS:
Native or near native speakers may only participate in all visual and group
events, however, they should not have a central role in any group presentation.
FAIRNESS:
* In the interest of fairness, we ask you to respect the competition rules. Deviation
from the guidelines is grounds for disqualification.
* Repetition of performances from year to year is not acceptable.
SPECIAL ACCOMMODATIONS:
The University of Alabama strives to ensure that all persons have an opportunity
to participate in all conference activities hosted at campus facilities. Individuals
with disabilities requiring special assistance or accommodations to participate
in German Day should contact the University at the following address at least
ten (10) University working days prior to the day of the scheduled competition.

DINING:
The Ferguson
Center Food Court offers a wide variety of competitively priced lunch
options ranging from fast food to regular meals. Check out the Fresh
Food Company with a buffet style selection next to the food court in the
Ferguson Center. Remind your students to bring money.
PARKING:
The easiest way to reach the Ferguson Center is to follow Jack Warner Parkway
(River Road) and to turn south onto Hackberry Lane up the hill. Do not turn
to the left, but stay to the right onto McCorvey Drive. At the T, buses turn
left onto Campus Drive and again to the right onto Seventh Ave. The Ferguson
Center is to the right with a drop off drop point /loading zone at the circular
driveway. The University suggests that bus drivers drop the students off at
the Ferguson Center and then turn around and park in River Road Park, along
the Black Warrior River at the intersection of Hackberry Lane and Jack Warner
Parkway. Visitor parking is available at the Ferguson Parking deck. To accommodate
the increasing number of students, the university has changed the traffic
flow and established a transit system (CrimsonRide). Many roads are now closed
for through traffic. Please check the Parking
Services web page the day before you leave for information on any road
closings.

Rules
of Conduct |
CHAPERONES:
The University of Alabama requires that each group of visiting high school
students be accompanied by an adult chaperone who remains responsible at all
times for the students attending any event. Each school must provide an adequate
number of chaperones for the number of students in the group (one chaperone
per 10 students if possible). Sponsors and chaperones should discuss appropriate
behavior with students prior to visiting The University of Alabama facilities.
BEHAVIOUR DURING ORAL COMPETITIONS:
We welcome audiences at oral events. All students, accompanying parents and
teachers may attend all oral events. Restrictions may apply
for the spelling bee if deemed necessary due to space problems.
We ask all teachers and chaperones to ask your students to observe the following
rules in order to be fair to the students competing:
* Do not enter or leave the room during a competition.
* If the door is closed, do not knock. Wait for applause and then enter.
* If you must leave to continue on to another event, do so quickly and quietly.
* Be a polite and attentive audience to all competitors, not just to those
from your school. Everyone can use moral support, so please applaud for all
competitors.
 |
Teachers |
TEACHERS LUNCH:
Teachers are cordially invited in a room to be designated for lunch.
PROP ROOM:
There will be a designated prop room. Please check the final schedule for the
room number. Students may leave props, instruments, costumes, backpacks, etc.
in this room to avoid cluttering the restrooms and hallways.
CLEAN UP:
All posters, videos, T-shirt designs, and children's books, as well as everything
in the prop room and the theater must be removed from the Ferguson Center by
5:00 p.m. The University cannot be responsible for materials remaining in the
building after 5:00. Please make plans accordingly.
