Text
AY102 Astronomy Lab Manual. In addition to the lab manual you must also have a protractor, millimeter ruler, and a scientific calculator. These items are in short supply in the lab, and you may not be able to complete some labs with out these materials.

Lab Attendance:
All labs must be completed and handed in during class. Thus, it is important to attend all labs and to arrive on time. If you miss the explanation at the beginning of class do not expect the instructor to repeat explanations and instructions for your benefit. Take notes on the initial explanation given by the instructor for quiz study purposes.

Grading:
In addition to twelve laboratory exercises there will be several lab quizzes as well as three exams. A post lab quiz will be answered immediately after completing a lab assignment. This quiz will be worth five points on your lab score and it will be useful for studying for the exams.

Ask questions of the instructor if you do not understand all of an exercise. Also, actively participate in group exercises as you will be tested in the quizzes for comprehension. Lab and exam grades will be available in the next week's lab. Graded lab exercises and exams will not be handed back and will only be available for in class reading.

12 Labs + 12 quizzes: 70%
3 Exams: 30%

Missed Quizzes:
If you must miss a quiz on your scheduled day, for example, due to illness, then you must present your instructor with a valid doctor's excuse. Additionally, it is your responsibility to inform your lab instructor within one week that you need to make up a missed quiz.

Missed Laboratory Exercises:
If you miss a lab, you can make it up by attending another lab section during the same week. It is your responsibility to tell the instructor of your actual lab section in addition to writing this information at the top of your question/answer section. It is also your responsibility to notify your usual instructor of the missed lab and to make sure that s/he has received your lab. No credit will be received for the lab otherwise. It is possible to make up one missed lab in the last week of the semester, when a special make up lab exercise is scheduled.
