Thompson Research Group

Welcome to the Thompson Research Group home page.

Professor Thompson’s research addresses the interrelationship of phase transformations on micro structural stability. Particular attention is given to the influence of interfaces and phase segregation during the early stages of nucleation and growth. Professor Thompson has an emphasis in using and developing analytical microscopy techniques to quantify this phenomenon in a variety of materials systems and length scales.

Detailed research efforts include:
1) Tailoring multi-phase microstructures in metals and ceramics
2) Structural characterization of magnetic nanostructures.
3) Thin film and heterostructure growth behavior
4) Development of microscopy-based strategies and techniques for the preparation and the characterization of materials
