PROUST (Programmable Recording of User-friendly Self-report through Time) is an application for Personal Digital Assistants (handheld computers) that permits research participants to self-record ecologically valid 24-hour records of activities, contexts, companions, moods, and other momentary experiential data.

PROUST v1.1 was developed by Dr. DeCaro and Dr. Carol Worthman of Emory University and released in 2002. That version of the program may be downloaded from Emory's Laboratory for Comparative Human Biology, and runs only on devices that support PalmOS version 3 or 4. Note, however, that it is being phased out of use given the poor availability of PalmOS 3/4 devices on the market, and technical support is not available.

PROUST 2.0, released in September 2008, is an authorized re-designed and re-engineered application that runs on devices that support Angstrom Linux, and contains various enhancements including multi-language support, high-resolution color support, and improved cross-platform portability. PROUST 2.0 is supported by the Developmental Ecology and Human Biology Lab. The release, including executables, source code and full documentation, is available for distribution free of charge for non-commercial use by download or on DVD. Customization of the source code is permitted, including porting to platforms that do not support Angstrom Linux, provided the modified software is made publicly available.
