The Telesnap Reconstructions and Missing Audios:

What are the Telesnap Reconstructions?

About two years ago, a tremendous discovery was made in Canada concerning Dr. Who.  It seems that during the 1960's, a fan hooked up his reel-to-reel tape recorder directly to his television for the purpose of taping Dr. Who episodes.  (Back in the days before VCR)  This process preserved the audio tracks of every episode known to be missing from the BBC archives at almost perfect broadcast quality.  Around the same time, several discoveries of brief missing clips were made.  Telesnaps of missing episodes had also existed for years;  a photographer had taken pictures every 10 seconds from missing Dr. Who episodes for archive purposes back during their original broadcast.  Thus, several fans simultaneously decided to attempt to create "Telesnap Reconstructions".  The existing telesnaps and video clips would be reinserted into their proper place on a videotape over top of the appropriate audio track, thus creating a sort of filmstrip version of the episode.  This gives Dr. Who fans to watch many episodes previously lost.  The project has become enormously successful, and over two-thirds of the missing episodes have been completed.

The Telesnap Reconstructions Website:  This is the main website for both the Telesnap Reconstructions and the Crystal Clear Audios.  On this site you will find the archives for "The Disused Yeti", the official newsletter of the reconstruction projects, listings of what episodes are available, FAQ's, and ordering information.

The Crystal Clear Audio Website:  Andrew Cloninger's website for the Crystal Clear Audios.  He provides the same information as the above site, but he is most helpful with questions and information on rare Dr. Who footage.

The Dr. Who Restoration Team Website:  This page was created by the team responsible for many of the rare video releases by the BBC.  Among their projects are the recolorization of numerous Jon Pertwee episodes, the Five Doctors Special Edition, the restoration of The Ice Warriors and The War Machines, and work on The Dominators.

Dr. Who Quick Archive:  A complete listing of what exists in the Doctor Who archives in the BBC and in what format.

The Audio/Video FAQ:  Everything you EVER wanted to know about missing episodes of Dr. Who.  Wonderfully done site, with lots of still images to illustrate what's being discussed.  Available in a text-only version as well.

Steve Phillips' Website:  Another complete guide to the missing episodes of Dr. Who.  Includes an exhaustive bank of images from all the existing individual clips.

Bryan Haas' "Lost and Found Episodes of Dr. Who":  Focuses upon past recoveries of episodes and what is rumored to still exist.
