"I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library." --Jorge Luis Borges

Welcome! Since you're here, I assume you have an interest in libraries, people named Lauren, or alliteration. In December 2010, I will graduate with a Master's in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from the University of Alabama. For my undergraduate education, I attended Bevill State in Fayette, AL and worked in the library there for two years. I then transferred to Mississippi University for Women, where I worked as a writing tutor, and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in philosophy. I also completed some coursework at the graduate level in English at York University in Toronto, Canada, and worked there as a graduate research assistant.

In July 2009, I had the amazing opportunity to explore libraries in London through the British Studies Program at University of Southern Mississippi. As of August 2009, I am a graduate assistant in Information Services at Gorgas Library, and a student assistant at Rodgers Science and Engineering Library. In Fall 2009, I was elected to the Student Advisory Committee at SLIS; in Spring 2010, I became the president of the UA SLIS student chapter of SLA. I am also a member of the American Library Association, Special Libraries Association, and the Alabama Library Association. My professional interests are reference services, information literacy, health literacy, and transliteracy, and providing access to information for people of all abilities.
