AY102 Astronomy Lab Page

This course covers the basics of astronomical observation in 12 laboratory exercises. These labs meet on a weekly basis. Exercises include: understanding celestial motions, using the celestial sphere, application of optics, deriving distances from parallax, understanding lunar terrain, idendifying stellar spectra, dissecting the solar structure, using the H-R diagram to understand stellar diversity, estimating the distances to galaxies by photographic analysis, determination of orbital parameters, and discussion of modern concepts.
