What is Photo Story?
Photo Story is a free software download from Microsoft that allows users to create a video story using digital pictures. The software can be used to add special effects, music and narrate the slideshow.

1.) Open Photo Story 3 by using the Start Menu.
2.) To create a new story, click on Begin a New Story.


3.) Click Next.

4.) Click the button labeled Import Pictures... to locate pictures to use in your story.



5.) Using the File Browser, locate and select a picture to use in your photo story and press OK. The picture will be imported into Photo Story.


6.) To import more pictures, repeat Steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary.
7.) Once you have imported all your pictures, you may wish to change their order or even delete some of them. To change the order of your pictures, simply left click the picture (in the film strip) and while holding down the mouse button drag the picture to the position you want it to appear in your story. Select a picture in the film strip and press the delete button on your keyboard to delete a picture.

8.) To edit a picture, highlight the picture by clicking it with the left mouse button and click the Edit button. You may rotate your picture, reduce red eye, or add an effect to the picture. Click Next arrow and repeat for each picture.




9.) Make sure that the Edit Picture window has been closed and click Next on the main window to continue.

10.) Click the Select Font button to select a different font.





11.) To add text to a picture, click the text box on the right side of the screen and type your text. As you type, the text will appear on the picture on the left side of the screen.
12.) Change horizontal orientation of the text by clicking the left align button, the center horizontally button, or right align button.
13.) Change the vertical position of the text by the top align button, the center vertically button, or the bottom align button.
14.) Repeat Steps 10-13 for each picture that requires text. To select another picture, click on the Next picture button.

15.) When finished, click Next.

Narrate Text and Customize Motion
16.) To narrate your pictures, click the Record button. Step through your pictures as you narrate by clicking each picture on the film strip. When finished, click the Stop button located next to the Record button.

Click the Customize Motion... button to customize the
motion of each picture. A new window will appear. Use the
available options to change to motion/duration and the transition for each picture.




18.) To select another picture, click the Next Picture button.
19.) You may preview your work at any time by
clicking the Preview button.
20.) When finished, click Save and Close the window.
21.) On the main Photo Story
window, click Next to
continue.
Tip: You can preview your work by pressing the Preview button any time the option is available.

22.) Select a picture on the film strip to indicate where you want music to start playing. Simply left click a picture in the film strip once to select it.
23.) Photo Story allows you several options for music. To use music saved on your computer, click the
select music
option and locate the music on your computer.


24.) A second music option, allows you to create your own music using Photo Story. Click on Create Music... to use this option. A new window will appear. First select a genre, then a style, band type, and then mood. You may also change the tempo and the intensity of the music. Press the Play button to hear the music. When finished click OK.

Tip: You may add multiple music clips to your Photo Story. Just click the picture on the film strip to indicate where you want the music to begin. Photo Story automatically adjust the music to end and begins the new music at the selected picture.

25.) You have several options for saving your story. Decide what you want to do with your story and select the appropriate option.



26.) Specify the location and filename of your story. Type the name of your story in the filename box. Click the Browse... button to locate a place to save your story.

27.) Click the Next button. Photo Story saves your story in two ways. First, it saves the story for playback using the option that you selected. After saving for playback, you will receive a prompt asking if you want to save the file as project. Saving your story as a project allows you to make changes to your story at a later date.

28.) Now that your story is finished you are ready to view it using Media Player. Just locate the story file and open it. Media Player should open and your new story will begin to play.
Tip: In order for your story to play properly, you may need to download Media Player 10. A free upgrade is available at Microsoft.
