French Linguistics and Dialectology, North American Varieties of French, Romance Linguistics, General Linguistics and Dialectology, Lexicology, Phonology, Morphosyntax, Languages in Contact (e.g., codeswitching, borrowing, creolistics, bilingualism, language contraction), Louisiana Francophony (colonial period, plantation society, and contemporary), African Francophony, Muskogean Languages, Language and Dialect in the South, Franco-Belgian Bande Dessinée , Italian fumetti, African-American expatriates in France, the photojournalism of Henri Cartier-Bresson.

EXPERIENCE

• At The University of Alabama, Department of Modern Languages and Classics (1988-present). Promoted to rank of Professor, 1999. Graduate Director, 1994-2002 and 2010. Chair, 2004-2007 and 2010-2011. Usual teaching assignments involve upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in French Linguistics, French Phonetics, Romance Linguistics, General Linguistics and Francophony:

Classes taught: Beginning French, Intermediate French, Advanced French Grammar and Composition, Commercial French, French Civilization, French Pronunciation and Phonetics, Introduction to Romance Linguistics, French Linguistics, Francophone Africa, French-English Translation

Semester-long seminars conducted: Francophone Louisiana, French Dialectology & Sociolinguistics, French Lexicology, Bande Dessinée franco-belge, Isleño Spanish, Languages in Contact, Language Variety in the South

• In School District No. 19, Springfield, Oregon (1978-1980): Instructor of French, Spanish, English, and American History at Middle and Junior High School levels.

• President of the Southeastern Conference on Linguistics, 2006-2007
