| During the summer of 2001 the state of California experienced a serious energy crisis which resulted in rolling blackouts that plagued the state throughout the summer. Experts predict that West Alabama will experience similar problems in the next 10-15 years due to population growth. In response to these warnings the government of Tuscaloosa County is proposing the development of an Alternative Energy Power Plant in Tuscaloosa County. The Tuscaloosa County Energy Commission has been established to produce a feasibility study to determine what type of alternative energy would best meets the needs of this area. The Commission is considering four sources of alternative energy: hydroelectric, solar, wind, or biomass. The Commission's next meeting will be open to the public. | |
