"The Siege of Savannah" is no exaggeration, considering how many prizes the Phi Xi chapter won at Sigma Tau Delta's 1997 International Convention in Savannah:
- Elizabeth McNeely was elected to the Board of Directors as Student Advisor (2 yr. term)
- William Bradley Vice won the Henry Regnery Endowed Scholarship (97-98)
- Sara Barry won the Graduate Scholarship (97-98)
- Brian Teare won the Senior Scholarship (97-98)
- Eric Davis won the Junior Scholarship (97-98)
- Kerry Whipple got the Regnery/Gateway Publishing Internship
- William Bradley Vice and Juliana Gray (tied) won the President's Award for Best Poetry
- Zac Showers won the Bad Poetry Contest with The Party
- Dr. Halli's terrible poem, entered hors de competition, was a great success: Negatives, Driving South From Tuscaloosa To Mobile
